A hallmark title in the canon of special venue film presentations, CHRONOS imparts a unique vision of our world – the first nonverbal, non-fiction motion picture filmed in time-lapse photography.
Presented as a visual symphony in seven movements, CHRONOS embarks on an unprecedented cinematic journey across the worlds of natural beauty and manmade monuments, as it explores the essence of time. Now, for the first time, CHRONOS is presented on home video with all the awe and splendor of its original theatrical release.
Originally presented in IMAX theaters, CHRONOS is a visual and musical journey presented through the magic of time-lapse cinematography. This tour de force of filmmaking treats viewers to natural and man-made wonders, all proceeding past the eye at varying speeds that reflect moods and impressions, rather than cold reality.
The soundtrack accompanies and expands upon this theme; providing an audio ambiance that surrounds and envelops the viewer.
The film’s remastering was supervised by both the filmmakers and R&B Films, whose Digital Reference Standard insures that the widescreen DVD will have the best possible image for home viewing. Razor-sharp images possess a detail rarely seen on DVD; colors are vibrant and with a purity that gives depth and clarity to all that is being seen. The soundtrack’s availability in Dolby Digital, DTS and PCM Stereo allows the viewer to fine-tune for preference; both Dolby Digital and DTS providing a multichannel surround sound that is well suited here.
A wealth of extras include featurettes describing the technical process of filming and composing the score, along with audio commentary by the director, production manager and music composer. There is also a “director’s shot list providing details on the locations used by accessing the subtitle track. DVD-ROM features are also included.
Well deserving of Grand Prize at the International OMNI-MAX Film festival, CHRONOS transports viewers away from the mundane and offers a glimpse into a more beautiful and entrancing world. This is a disc that definitely bears repeated viewings.
